The available evidence on the beneficial effects of HDF raise the question regarding the possible mechanisms of the observed effects on improved survival reported for HDF. Factors, as the effects on the removal of middle and large molecules, inflammation, intradialytic morbidity, blood pressure regulation, oxidative stress and others will be discussed.
